Civilization III
Quite some time ago, back in, oh, '96 or so, I stumbled across a game called Civilization 2.  Given my interest in history and the enjoyment I derived from such games as Empire, I was soon hooked, and obsessively drove my Romans to world domination on several occasions.  Then came the Conflicts in Civilization expansion, and I continued to be thrilled by the game, winning the Revolution, the Civil War, and turning the USSR into a glass parking lot.  Fantastic Worlds came, and I rejoiced in the modding aspects of the game, spending hours upon hours tinkering with this and that.  Then came a game called Call to Power, and the addiction continued.

Finally, after years of waiting, Civilization 3 came unto the people of the world, and some of them were pretty happy with it.  Yeah, the combat system was kinda flaky, and the stock game had a few...issues, but dammit, this thing was FUN!  Sleepless nights as I said to myself "I'll sleep right after I teach Abe a lesson..." ensued, and life was good.

This page is my tribute to the game.  I've dabbled a bit in writing about my games, inspired by the writings of Sirian, Sullla, and the people over at Civfanatics.  A couple of stories, Succession Games, and most recently, my reports for the Realms Beyond Civilization Epics.

Be warned, incidentally, that a lot of these pages are fairly graphics intensive, and may take a while to load for dialup users.  I've made efforts, but...

Most of the content on this page is replicated here, my Hall of Fame project page, with a little bit more commentary and a few smaller game reports.

Stories
These are fictionalized accounts of games that I've played.

The Chronicles of Egypt [1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8] - A "typical" game from the tail-end of my Regent days.

The Other Chronicles of Egypt - Fragmentary reporting from an Egypt at war.

Rule Britannia [1 2 3 4 5 6] - Also from the end of my Regent days, this one is, um, different.

Succession Games
Succession games are a concept wherein a group of people trade off playing a game of Civ.  One person takes a few turns, then the next person, etc.  It's a lot of fun.

Tonto SG1 - The Civ players at Tonto take on the world! (Sadly, this one stalled halfway through)

Tonto SG 1, the Return [Part 1 - 1 2 3 4] [Part 2 - 5 6] - My completion of the original Tonto SG.  Part 1 is a port of the original thread, Part 2 is the new stuff.

RBP10A - The Spanish Explorers of RBCiv explore Deity.  This is the team A thread, of which I was a part.

RBP10B - Team B's thread, for comparison.

RBP10C - Team C's thread, for comparison.  Sadly, their game died halfway through.

Sirian's Sandbox - Sirian's pacifistic ultrabuilder game.  Another one that didn't finish.  I think I'm cursed.

RBC4A - The Realms Beyond crew does the Mesoamerica Conquest in our own peculiar style.

RBC5 - The Feudalistic Mongols take on the world with horse-shaped objects.

RBC9 - The Realms Beyond gang tests out the Hittites.

RBC11 - Byzantine Communists build BIG statues to impress everyone with their culture.

RBC12F - The RB folks take on the Fall of Rome scenario.  I'm part of the Ostrogoth team.

RBC12 Discussion Thread - Rather than link to the other seven teams, here's the main thread.

RBC15D - Austria in the Napoleonic Wars.

RBC15G - Prussia in the Napoleonic Wars.

RBC15 Links - The rest of the games for comparison.

RomeoRedux - America in WWII in the Pacific, with a few twists.

Epics
The Epics are a set of variant games, which can be better explained by visiting RBCiv and reading than I ever can.  Needless to say, they're a lot of fun.

Epic 10 - Horse Feathers - Cavalry warfare, Iroquois-style.

Epic 14 - Alexander the Great [1 2 3 4 5 6 7] - Greece vs the world.

Epic 15 - Soyuz [1 2 3 4 5] - When Communist Russia races to the stars...sort of.

Epic 18 - Potluck Duet [A 1 2 3 4 5] [B 1] - Same civ, two different worlds.

Epic 21 - Jack Frost [1 2 3 4] - Playing in the snow.

Epic 24 - Speed Racer [1 2] - Tiny map accelerated production pacifism!

Epic 25 - Numismatic Numidians [1 2 3 4 5 6] - Capitalist running dog lackeys.

Epic 27 - The Ming Dynasty [1 2 3 4 5] - China does some Always War action.

Epic 31 - Potluck Brunch [1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9] - Bite-sized potluck goodness.

Epic 32 - Falsfire's Folly [1 2 3 4 5 6] - Fun without the resources.

Epic 33 - The Tortoise and the Hare - Civ, RTS-style.

Epic 37 - Ditchdigger [1 2 3 4] - The Iroquois practice their digging skills.

Epic 39 - Division of Labor - Ronald McCelt and the gang.

Epic 40 - The Hittite Cosmonauts - Epic 15 with Hittites.

Epic 46 - The Two Towers - 2CC race to space.

Epic 50 - Wine, Women, and Song [1 2 3] - Celebrate!  Celebrate!  Dance to the music!

Other Games
My solo games that I've seen fit to write about.

Riders on the Storm [1 2 3 4 5 6] - My attempt at a high-warfare game with Japan.

One City Challenges - My tries at playing games with only city.

Last of the Mayincans - Multiplayer cultural militarism.
